Porfirio Peinado earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Industrial Chemistry from Los Mochis Technical University, Mexico, in 1989.

He received his Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Texas El Paso (UTEP) in 2007.
Dr. Peinado received a Ph.D. in Environmental Science and Engineering at UTEP in May 2013.

Dr. Peinado was the recipient of several awards including the UTEP Center for Environmental Resource Management Student Fellowship. Dr. Peinado has presented his research at the American Chemical Society SE/SW Regional Meeting, the Association of American Geographers annual meeting, the National Geochemistry Institute meeting, and the American Geophysical Union fall meeting.

Dr. Peinado’s dissertation, “Geochemical Characterization of Mineral Dust Sources in the Chihuahuan Desert and Southern High Plains Regions,” was supervised by Dr. Thomas Gill.
