Biography

Dr. Carolyn A. Stroman is a Professor in the Department of Communication, Culture and Media Studies at Howard University. An alumna of Howard University, she received her doctorate from the Syracuse University Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. As a member of the NOAA Social Science Research Team, she has participated in several research projects and directed three dissertations pertaining to risk and crisis communication.

 Research Interests

Dr. Stroman’s research interests include health communication and risk communication. A central theme running throughout her research and publications is the effects of persuasive communication on African and Latino audiences.

Recognitions

She has received awards from the HU Graduate School and The Association for Education in Journalism for her mentorship of graduate students. Dr. Stroman previously served as a Research Associate at the H.U. Institute for Urban Affairs and Research and the Center for Drug Abuse Research.
